This course focuses on the engineering aspect of solid state lasers. A detailed discussion of the characteristics, design, and practical problem of solid state lasers will be provided. Course will cover: A simple model for laser operation, properties of solid-state laser materials, laser oscillator design, optical pump-system design, thermo-effects and heat removal. Operations of Q-switching, modelocking, and parametric oscillators will also be included.
